On January 20, 2005, our first litter was born, and
Geraldo is one of the puppies that we kept from that litter. Geraldo was
the third puppy born, and he was loud and flashy from the get go! He was
already nursing vigorously before his dam had even removed the lower half
of his sac.
We love this handsome bi-blue boy! He is a wonderful blend of his sire
(Am/Can Ch Kelbren Blue Flame CD RN NAJ AJP
CGC CTL1-S CTL1-F ) and dam (Shamont Most Unusual
Day NAJ), and he's a joy to show and to live with.
Geraldo was Winner's Dog under William Usherwood for his first two points
on Mother's Day 2007. Those were our first homebred points, and we were quite
excited about them. Our heartfelt thanks go out to Linda Urbanek for showing
Geraldo to that win. After taking some time off to mature and to do agility
with me, Geraldo hit the conformation ring again and quickly picked up seven
more points under the expert guidance of Judy Stachowski.
Geraldo placed 2nd in the Open Blue Class under Dorothy Christensen at the
2009 ASSA National in Perry, GA! It was such a thrill for us when she pulled
Geraldo and his handler (Judy Stachowski) out of the lineup and moved them
into second place.
In short order, Geraldo followed up his placement at the National by winning
a four point major under June Penta with his good friend, Elaine Kelvington,
at the end of the lead. One month later, he and Judy Stachowski walked back
into the conformation ring again and won a major under Ralph (Sonny) Ambrosio
to finish his championship. Geraldo was our first homebred breed champion,
and he was also the first champion for his dam and the second champion for
his sire!
Geraldo and I are having a blast in the agility
ring, and on March 6, 2010, we finished our agility championship! Geraldo
was very forgiving of my handling mistakes on the journey to our MACH, and
I love him dearly for his patience and his perseverance. He always has a
smile on his face and a sparkle in his eye when he's running agility. Sometimes,
his joy at being on the course overtakes him, and we call those runs "Monkey
Boy Specials!" Anyone who's ever seen one of those runs can attest to the
fact that they're aptly named. <G>
Several months after Geraldo and I finished his MACH, Rhonda Toren offered
to train him in herding for me. Geraldo spent six weeks at Camp Toren and
ultimately came home with an HT and an HCT at the end of his name!! Earning
the HT, also finished the requirements for his VCX. When Rhonda called me
on September 17, 2010, to tell me that my special boy was now a CH MACH VCX,
my joy knew no bounds!!
In August 2011, Geraldo became a Canadian Champion too! He was beautifully
presented in the ring by Rachel Pratt and finished in just two weekends.
As icing on the cake, he took BOB and a Group 3 from the classes on the day
he finished. He was shown as a special the next day and much to our delight,
he was BOB again and got another group placement. His Canadian sojourn certainly
ended on a high note!
When I entered the breed, I had several goals: I wanted to produce a breed
Champion, a MACH, and a VCX. It was beyond my wildest dreams that a puppy
from the first litter ever born at CastleGate would fulfill all three of
those goals for me. Geraldo is a joy to train and to live with, and I am
so blessed to have him in my life.
